The days before a move are full of tasks — but right inside the busyness, a few short conversations with your children can make a big difference. They don’t need to be long or “right.” They need to be real.
What we’re taking with us
Before talking about what changes, it helps to talk about what stays. Friendships, small rituals, a favourite game — all of these travel with you. When a child knows some things won’t disappear, it’s easier to hold what does change.
What you’re curious about, and what feels a little scary
Make room for both feelings together. Excitement and worry don’t contradict each other — they simply live side by side. When you ask without rushing to fix, your child learns it’s okay to feel it all.
What we’ve worked through before
Remind your child of a time they faced something new and came through — a first day at preschool, a club they didn’t know. The move is another chapter in a story that already holds courage, not a start from zero.
There’s no need to have all three conversations in one day. Let them happen along the way — on the walk to school, before bed. What matters is presence, not the exact words.
